Tamela Mann Joins Cast of “The Color Purple”

Gospel powerhouse Tamela Mann has joined the cast for the new film adaptation based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The original 1985 film starred Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover. Mann who’s acting experience including several of Tyler Perry’s stage plays and movies including Madea Goes to Jail and Diary of a Mad Black Woman is set to play the role of “First Lady” the wife of Reverend Avery who will be played by comedian/actor David Alan Grier. Other cast members include veteran actor Louis Gossett, Jr., Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Deon Cole and Stephen Hill. The film directed by Blitz Bazawule will follow the journey of the lead character Celie as she navigates the trials and triumphs of life.

Tasha Cobbs-Leonard Makes History with The Athlete’s Foot

Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Tasha Cobbs-Leonard has made history as the first female recipient elected to join The Athlete’s Foot (TAF)’s new signature program StAART which stands for Strategic African American Retail Track. The program first founded summer of 2020 amidst the pandemic and during the height of the Black Lives Matter Movement to meet the needs for change and address the disparities in the footwear industry. Leonard, who was already an entrepreneur is now a franchise owner of The Athlete’s Foot and is currently scouting locations for her store in her hometown of Greenville, SC which would make it the first TAF for the city.

Denzel Washington to Speak at Bishop Jakes’ International Summit

Academy Award-winning actor, producer, and director Denzel Washington has been announced as a speaker at the 2022 International Leadership Summit. The annual conference, which is the brainchild of Bishop T.D. Jakes, is designed to provide a collective forum for established and budding entrepreneurs, leaders, and influencers. The three-day Summit will be held March 31st – April 1st in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte Convention Center. Washington will be leading a master class discussion about faith, Hollywood, and life in the spotlight. Washington, considered to be one of the most preeminent actors of all times, holds the title for having received more Oscar nominations than another Black person. This year’s speakers also include the President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo, political commentator Van Jones, Lakewood Church’s Pastor Joel Osteen and other key figures from the faith, entertainment, and business arenas.  

Travis Malloy’s “Millions, Billions, Trillions Summit”

Travis Malloy, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and entrepreneur will be presenting a full roster of dynamic for speakers the “Millions, Billions, Trillions Summit,” in Austell, GA. The Summit will be a one-day event packed with inspiration, networking opportunities, and information. The event will be held on March 31st at the Riverside Epicenter and is centered on the theme “The Courage It Takes to Be Great.” The Summit which caters primarily to aspiring entrepreneurs and future leaders will be hosted by Malloy.  Actor Malik Yoba will serve as the keynote speaker. Spring Virtual Classes Now Open at Hezekiah Walker Center at VUU

Gospel artists Ted Winn, Byron Cage, Gospel Today Magazine founder, Dr. Teresa Hairston and Rev. Zynora Manson of the Henrico Ministers’ Conference will be the course instructors for four upcoming Spring 2022 virtual sessions at the Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music at Virginia Union University including The Power of Sacred Music, Gospel Heritage, Song Writing, Publishing & Licensing and Worship 101. Over the span of four weeks, students will be imparted with history and information about the evolution of gospel music, and how the church’s culture has played a role in the psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Also, they will be instructed on the mechanics of music publishing and licensing. Upon completion, each student will receive a certificate for each course.
