American Music Awards Nominees Announced

The American Music Awards announced the nominees for their upcoming program via Twitter on October 28th. The American Music Awards now in its 49th year will honor and recognize the most popular artists, albums, and singles for 2021. Among the categories for this year’s consideration are the “Favorite Gospel Artist” nominees who include Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Kirk Franklin, Koryn Hawthorne, Maverick City Music and Kanye West. The three-hour live special will broadcast on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, November 21st at 8p ET. Female rapper Cardi B will debut in the role of the show’s host.

Jill Scott Stars in Remake of “Highway to Heaven”

Highway to Heaven,” the beloved iconic TV series of the 80s created by the late actor Michael Landon is now airing as a television event movie on Lifetime TV. The premiere aired on Saturday, November 6th. Singer/actress Jill Scottreprises the role of the Angel originally played by Landon himself. Scott’s character renamed Angela Stewart is an angel who was sent back to Earth by God to help others in need.  As Angela, Scott is cast as a temporary school counselor who works alongside a junior high school principal and finds herself intervening in the life of Cody, a troubled student. Scott who was a fan of the original show, said that “faith had been a major part of her life from the time her grandmother introduced her to prayer.” She naturally was interested immediately in the role. The original “Highway to Heaven” television series debuted September 19,1984 and ran for five seasons. 

“J.C.” Gospel’s Newest Artist is an A.I. Creation

Gospel has a new face that’s not a face at all. J.C. is the name of the artificial intelligence (A.I.) gospel artist built entirely of 1s and 0s by has a gospel song written and recorded by an algorithm called “Biblical Love.” The press release announcing the release of the song describes it as an “unquantifiable love beyond description or measure – a love of biblical proportions that transcends to everyone and everything.” J.C. was designed as a forerunner for Meta or Metaverse formerly Facebook and is not a new concept. Music labels in China have experimented over the years with artificial intelligence successfully for genres like pop but this is the first time an inspirational A.I. artist has surfaced. Some of the pros being cited are no egos, no scandals, and no spiritual conflicts. “Biblical Love” will be available on all streaming platforms and Metaverse early 2022.

Kierra Sheard-Kelly Stars in Lifetime TV’s “Line Sisters”

Grammy Award-nominated gospel singer Kierra Sheard-Kelly has a new acting role in the upcoming Lifetime TV thriller “Line Sisters.” The movie which also features LeToya Luckett, Ta’Rhonda Jonesand Drew Sidora is about a group of four sorority sisters who share a mutual friendship as well as a dark secret concerning the mysterious death of the dean of pledges 15 years earlier. The sisters reunited during a Greek Weekend celebration set in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina find that their past has come back to haunt them when strange and inexplicable things start happening. Now the sisters of Alpha Beta Omega Inc. find that their deadly secret may be unearthed. “Line Sisters,” is one of three thrillers greenlight for Lifetime TV’s winter 2022 lineup.

Jekalyn Carr Stars in Philly Stage Play “Life Isn’t Fair”

Jekalyn Carr will be joining veteran stage play actor Clifton Powell (Ray, Menace II Society, Dead Presidents), Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (HBO’s The Wire) and Paris Bennett(American Idol Finalist), in an award-winning stage play “Life Isn’t Fair.” The play which is headed to The Met Philly in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, November 21st follows the story of fictional character Ricky Jones a man who was incarcerated at a young age who generally has not made the best life decisions but ultimately finds redemption. The playwright is Philadelphia native Derrell Lawrence. This is not the first acting role for Carr who is a multi-award-winning evangelist and singer. She debuted in A.D. Smith’s 2016 stage play Uncle Curly’s Dinner” and appeared in Crystal Gaskin’s stage play What Goes Around Comes Back Around.”  She also appeared in 2017 in the popular OWN-TVseries “Greenleaf.”
