“Respect in Theaters August 13th

Respect the movie based on the life of Aretha Franklin starring Jennifer Hudson is finally nearing its debut. The movie spans the life of the legend from her childhood days as a singer in her father’s church to becoming an internationally recognized star. Following several COVID-related delays, excited fans can now expect the long-awaited movie “Respect” to be released in theaters on Friday, August 13th. Hudson who was handpicked by Aretha Franklin for the starring role is an actress and singer known for her own powerhouse vocals. She studied the Queen of Soul for some time and has already been lauded in early reviews for her excellent portrayal of Aretha.

“Respect” the movie also stars Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker, as Aretha’s father Reverend C.L. Franklin, Skye Dakota Turner, portrays childhood Aretha years and Marlon Wayans has been cast as Ted White, former manager and often abusive first husband of Franklin. Other supporting roles, include well-known names such as Audra McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Heather Headley and Queen Latifah.

Tamela Mann Releases “Overcomer”

Grammy award-winning singer, actress and producer Tamela Mann released her latest project Overcomer on Friday, August 6, 2021. The new 12-track album was executive produced by Tamela’s husband David Mann. Some have already predicted that “Overcome” may possibly be the singer’s best work to date,  which is a hefty statement considering the success of her previous albums.  So, what makes this project different? “I poured my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words on this album,” Tamela says. “It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things, and doing what I can to overcome them.” “Overcomer” features several special guest artists including Todd Dulaney, Kirk Franklin, and Wyclef Jean. “Touch from You,” the debut radio single from the album marks Tamela’s seventh #1 hit on the Billboard Gospel Airplay Chart.Help Me,” Tamela’s current single from the project was debuted live during the premiere of the 36th Annual Stellar Awards which aired Sunday, August 1st on BET.

Chance the Rapper’s “Magnificent Coloring World”

Magnificent Coloring World” was the name given to the secret 2017 concert tour featuring r rapper, singer/songwriter and producer, Chance the Rapper. The film was taped following the rapper’s victorious sweep of three Grammy Awards for his 2016 mixtape project “Coloring World” which featured an ecclectic collection of guest artists including Kirk Franklin, BJ the Chicago Kid, Kanye West, the Chicago Children’s Choir, and others. The concert, performed in front of a select group of fans in Chance’s hometown of Chicago was staged with the purposeful intention of it being filmed as a movie to be later distributed in theaters. The upcoming film, initially will be released during two premieres. First in Los Angeles on August 13th, followed by the next day screening in New York on August 14th. AMC Theaters will be the exclusive partner “Magnificent Coloring World.”

Mark Hubbard Assembles Lollapalooza’s First Featured Choir

Celebrated choir director, Mark Hubbard recently wrapped up his first single in six years with his signature ensemble “The Voices.” “Now Cry Holy,” the single presented by Bishop Hezekiah Walker has already been released on all digital outlets and features  Pastor Don Clark. Hubbard, known for his outstanding performances and collaborations with musical legends such as Richard Smallwood, Donald Lawrence, Tramaine Hawkins, Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams, Karen Clark-Sheard and the late Aretha Franklin was personally enlisted by Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events to assemble what has resulted in a 40-person choir aptly named “Music in the Key of Chicago.” The Lollapalooza festival has traditionally showcased a variety of performing artists from around the world, but due in part to the pandemic, this year’s focus has shifted to more local talent including Mark Hubbard’s “Music in the Key of Chicago.” Their performance in festival have made them the first-ever Gospel choir on its stage since the inception of Lollapalooza 30 years ago. The four-day festival wrapped up on Aug. 2, 2021.

Jekalyn Carr Launches “Jekalyn Beauty”

Jekalyn Carr has launched “Jekalyn Beauty” a signature new line of beauty products she is marketing to serve a broader audience of  both males and females. The first product introduced from her line, is her fragrance “Jekalyn For Her,” which has been described as romantic and feminine, while exuding strength and confidence much like Jekalyn herself. Jekalyn spoke of her inspiration in an official press release saying “I’ve always loved to not only smell good, but I’ve always loved distinctive fragrances that make me smell elite. So, I wanted to create a fragrance that helps women smell like a Queen at all times.” She’s also launched “Jekalyn for Him” a masculine crafted scent. Jekalyn also plans to release additional beauty products very soon for Jekalyn Beauty  including a cosmetics line.
