Grammy-nominated Ricky Dillard & the New Generation Chorale are getting ready for their 12th live recording. The event scheduled for Friday, July 9th is being presented by Motown Gospel will be held in Munster, IN at the Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th Avenue at 7:30pm. Dr. Ricky Dillard, known to fans as “The Choirmaster” and New G are also nominees in this month’s Stellar Awards in the category of Choir of the Year for their project simply entitled “Choirmaster.” Tickets for the limited seating recording are available through www.Eventbrite.com.
July 4th Weekend Pull up and Praise Concerts in Houston,TX
For two consecutive nights Friday, July 2nd and Saturday, July 3rd fireworks and gospel music will light up the Pull Up and Praise Houston LLC Arena for the 4th of July Weekend Freedom Celebration. The concert host Dr. David Gilliam Sr. will preside over the festivities that will feature Mavin Sapp, John P. Kee and Kathy Taylor on Friday, July 2nd at 7:30 pm. The following morning at 10:30 am. Pastor John P. Kee and Kathy Taylor will return on Saturday, July 3rd with Fred Hammond who will join them as the special musical guest. Holiday Weekend Gospel Cookout Concert Taking Place in Dillon, SC
There’s no better combination on a holiday weekend than a good cookout coupled with good gospel music. The Gospel Cookout Concert hosted by artist/radio personality Brea Miles will be held at the Dillon County Ltrg Distribution Center in Dillion, SC on Saturday, July 3rd. The cookout which begins at noon continues until 4pm and will include a BBQ cook-off contest awarding the most outstanding chef. The 4-hour concert which kicks off right afterwards at 5pm will feature popular gospel artists such as Earnest Pugh, Jokia, Titus Showers, Zak Williams & 1 Akord, Donald Ashley & Millennium, Donald Malloy and gospel legends Spencer Taylor & The Highway QCs. General admission for the cookout and concert is $20.
Jekalyn Carr First to Receive Women’s Songwriters Recognition
Evangelist, songstress and multi-award-winning gospel artist Jekalyn Carr can now add a new title of distinction to her credits. She recently became the first gospel artist to be inducted into the Women’s Songwriting Hall of Fame. The event which took place in Washington, DC was held at the National Museum of Women in Arts.
At only 24 years of age, Jekalyn is a much sought-after gospel artist known for her gift of delivering messages of positivity and encouragement. Jekalyn who is said to be a self-taught singer, also has the gift for penning beautiful, spiritual, uplifting lyrics and has been credited as a songwriter on several of her projects dating back to 2013 when she composed and sung songs from her project “Greater is Coming.” Since then, she has continued to write subsequent song for projects including the “Life Project” and “One Nation Under God.” Jekalyn is also one of this month’s top nominees with Stellar nods in four categories including the prestigious Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year award.
Essence Festival 2021 “Get Lifted” Returns Virtually for a Second Year
This year’s Essence Festival celebration has returned virtually for a second year in a row due to COVID concerns. The annual event which kicked off virtually last weekend is being presented in two parts with a portion of it being presented live from the host city in New Orleans with a variety of virtual performers. “Get Lifted,” the inspirational segment was aired online on Sunday, June 27th and was co-hosted by the beloved New Orleans locals from the City of Love, Bishop Lester Love and his wife Pastor Fran Love. Israel Houghton & New Breed, the musical headliners were joined by special guest artist DOE Jones. The second half of this year’s inspirational special will be online at essencefestival.com on July 4th. Kirk Franklin & Friends will host a variety of gospel artists including Brian Courtney Wilson and Erica Campbell on the Ford Virtual Stage.
