The Royal Wedding Choir Inks Record Deal with Sony
The choir that accentuated the British Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have landed a record. Deal. The Kingdom Choir, signed a deal with Sony music and is set to release it’s debut album this year. The 30-member ensemble captured the world’s attention with their performance of the legendary Ben E. Kings hit song “Stand By Me”. Since the May 19th nuptials, a YouTube video of the performance has been watched over 3 million times.
The London-based choir formed in 1994 are veterans of the big stage. They have performed with Luther Vandross, Sir Elton John and Michael Ball. Having performed for more than 20 years, The Kingdom Choir have won BBC Radio2’s Minstrels in the Gallery, a Christian music festival as well as receiving two nominations for Best UK Choir at the Oasis Awards. Most recently, Their Royal performance topped the US Gospel chart.
Led by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson, the choir is set to release it’s debut on November 2nd following a concert in London slated for the end of November. In a statement announcing the deal, Gibson said: “The Kingdom Choir are absolutely delitghted with the journey of the past few months It’s been a rollercoaster, but we wouldn’t have it any other way – first, the honour of being able to sing at the royal wedding, and then the thrill of being signed to Sony.” Gibson continued: “We really didn’t expect that and we really just thought that we would have a lovely time at the wedding and maybe have a bit of a platform, but then this happens,” Gibson said. “I would never have thought it in a million years.”
The choir will go into the studio later this month to work on the album.
