[Reflection] No Weapon Formed Against Me: A Promise of Protection & Prosperity in the Face of Adversary

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,

And every tongue which rises against you in judgment

You shall condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the Lord.

– Isaiah 54:17

I was thinking about this Scripture the other day, and was so thankful for it. To me, it means I don’t have to worry. It means I don’t have to fret – at all. Ever.

So what does it really mean? Well, it means that you don’t have to be afraid. It doesn’t mean that nothing will come your way. Rather, it promises that anything that rises against you shall not prosper. Period.

Say you have a coworker at work that hates your guts. You didn’t do anything to them, in fact, you’ve been coming into work every day chipper, ready to face the day, working hard, treating others with respect and not really saying anything to anyone: minding your business and doing well. Yet, this person seems to have a vendetta against you.

They don’t like you. This will happen. People will not like you. Others will love you and be “forever friends,” but most will not. So, they start spreading rumors about you. Telling other people your business – business that is, in fact, not true. Saying that you really only care about yourself. Saying that they don’t really know how you got this job. Saying that you smell bad or that other people don’t like you as well. You will see them grimace in your direction, parlay an initial rumor into a huge story. This is okay.

This is okay because everything happens in its time. You will have people that say mean things about you not knowing who you are. Or you will have people knowing who you are and not liking it. Whatever you do, know that it shall not prosper. It won’t come to anything greater than what it is. A series of lies will remain that – a series of lies. A grimace – a grimace. A rumor – a rumor. They will remain what they are and they will, with time, come to light. What a promise! What an encouragement! As long as you keep your composure and stay true to yourself, whatever the outcome may be, you will be rewarded, either in this life or the next, with patience and faith.

Let’s say the turmoil comes from within. Let’s say you’ve been on your journey for a long time and you’ve been seeing blessings and favor coming your way, but you still struggle on the inside. Let’s say you face negative thoughts – ones that come barreling at you at 100 miles per hour, ones you don’t know what to do with, yet you persist time after time. Perhaps they are too grim or grotesque to mention, and maybe you wonder why you still face them, even though you left your old life behind.

No one said you would not still be challenged. Your mind takes time and needs direction to move off its once-decided course. It can happen in a day – it may sound hard, but it happens as soon as you are willing and decide to end it. Training your mind is like training the most powerful creature in the world, one that is also the most loving and the most healing. You must have faith in that creature, and in your mastery over that creature, or else it will rule over you.

Regardless of these things, the Lord’s promise is that if you continue to serve the Lord faithfully and turn to Him in all your circumstances – every single one of them – He promises that no weapon, no mind games, no mental barriers, no perceived psychological terror or emotional circuit – will prosper. You need not worry – as soon as faith kicks in, it keeps going, and you will not be able to stop the powerful and beautiful force of it.

No doubt, life presents us with its challenges not to break us, but to test us. God is the builder – He needs to test whether or not His material is working, to see if the building is ready for use. If the building goes through the test and does not pass, it is scrapped and another building is constructed. We are not the builders of our own lives – we are simply the material that goes into making what is God’s great plan for all of us, that which will benefit His children. In this we can have faith, and when we do, nothing is impossible for us. If He tests us and we pass, nothing can prevail against us.

Jesus said:

“Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen,” (Matthew 21:21).

What can stand against you? When the Lord is beside you? Better: within you? Nothing can stand in your way, nothing can reach higher, nothing can go deeper, nothing can run faster. Nothing can overcome you. That’s why it says:

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,

And every tongue which rises against you in judgment

You shall condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the Lord.
