Gospel star Marvin Sapp has hit another career milestone with his 11th studio album “Close” as it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart this fall. As his preceding albums, “You Shall Live”, “I Win”, “Here I Am” and “Thirsty” debuted at #1 solidifying his position as Gospel gold, but the kind that shines in the glory of the people. Marvin’s music is a ministry that continues to prove that his music holds sincerity that resonates and heals. “Close” is a 10-track album filled with refreshing, energetic and balladic praise.

The multi-Grammy and Stellar award-winning artist and preacher connected with long-time collaborators Aaron Lindsey and Myron Butler on “Close”. In addition, Marvin collaborated with a host of other veteran music-makers including Rodney Jerkins (“You and ME Together” featuring Erica Campbell and Izze Williams), Kirk Franklin (Kind God) and R. Kelly (“Listen”).

Reuniting with the label that released his album “I Believe” in 2002, Marvin’s new album is a welcome on the re-launching of Verity Records which is on the RCA Label Group, owned by Sony Music Entertainment. The label, founded in 1994 has boasted a grand roster and releases from Gospel icons such as Richard Smallwood, Hezekiah Walker, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Twinkie Clark and and many more. Now “Close” with its chart-topping creative success adds to the imprint and Sapp’s continuous legacy.

The self-titled album and lead single speaks to the intimate spiritually that has touched Sapp in his life and he channels this energy that could be enigmatic to some, into fully understood and felt experience. Marvin sings: “I must be close, to my destiny; extremely close to my victory/cause here comes trials and troubles, jealousy and envy/I must be close to what You have for me/I must be close to my overflow/Extremely close to my miracle/Because here comes/Confusion, problems and enemies/I just believe/That I must be close to what You have for me.” Surrender is the order of the song and congratulations is the order for “Close’s” breakthrough.
