CeCe Winans 2018 Grammy Win is a Family Affair
Gospel veteran Cece Winans brought home a Grammy for both categories she was nominated in. Her wins was announced pre live broadcast during the 60th Grammy Awards aired live on CBS Television, Sunday night. The two awards bring Winans’ total to 12 Grammy wins.
Winning for both Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Performance/Song, Winans’ latest work was a big leap in creativity. The album “Let Them Fall in Love”, titled by the singer herself, was a love testimony by way of 1960s R&B a la Motown. Winans entrusted the direction of her latest effort to the one person who has known her heart and voice most intimately – her son. Alvin Love III collaborated with his mother as co-writer and producer and thus took home the awards as well.
Winans’ rendition of Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me Lord” spent last year well received in the Nashville, her home of the last 29 years. Winans appeared at The Grand Ole Opry, CMA Country Christmas and Austin City Limits. The record opened a new audience to her and paved the way for further success.
Although not present to receive the award, Alvin Love III accepted it saying: “I want to thank Cece for recording the song and giving birth to me. It’s only fitting for us to thank Jesus because He is our category and He in our message, He is our song.”
