Dante Bowe Leads Grammy Christian Music Categories 

Dante Bowe, multi-platinum-selling songwriter, performer, and member of the Maverick City Music collective has at least five good reasons to be “Joyful” this season. Nominees for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on November 23, 2021, and Bowe received five nominations making him the lead for the Christian music category. Bowe received two solo nominations including Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Voice of God,” and for Joyful,” the lead single from his second studio album, Circles”.   He is also nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song and Best Contemporary Christian Music Album with Elevation Worship & Maverick City Music and Best Gospel Album with Maverick City Music. TRIBL Records, the inspirational independent label that releases recordings from Maverick City Music has now achieved its own milestone for the most nominations for a gospel artist in one year.

Founder and CEO of Daystar Television Dies at 64

Marcus Lamb, 64, President and Founder of the prominent Christian network Daystar Television died after contracting COVID-19. The Christian broadcaster known for his outspoken opposition to COVID-19 vaccines had been diagnosed with the virus 16 weeks ago. His wife Joni announced his passing during a broadcast on Tuesday, November 30th. Daystar has broadcasted multiple programs with anti-vaxxers as well as physicians that support the use of the controversial drug hydroxychloroquine and other alternative treatments for combatting COVID-19.  Joni Lamb also mentioned on the broadcast that her husband who was diabetic had tried alternative treatments but was unable to recover after being hospitalized once his oxygen levels dropped. Daystar Television Network, part of the Word of God Fellowshipfirst aired in 1997. 

Kirk Franklin Takes Home a Win at 2021 Soul Train Awards

The 2021 Soul Train Music Awards taped at Harlem’s historic Apollo Theateron November 20th aired on BET on Sunday, November 28, 2021. The award show which recognizes the best performers across multiple genres of R&B, Gospel and Hip-Hop music honored Kirk Franklin with the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award. The award, originally entitled Best Gospel Performance – Male, Female or Group was created during the 2009 ceremony. To date Kirk has won 15 Soul Train Music Awards. This year’s nominees in the category also included Maverick City Music, Brian Courtney Wilson, Kelly Price and Tasha Cobbs Leonard. Gospel artist Fred Hammond was among this year’s main show performers.

Tamela Mann Releases First Christmas Single

Tamela Mann, multi-talented singer and actress released her first-ever Christmas single. The song What Christmas Really Meanswas first featured on BET Networkand BET+movie Soul Santa that stars Tamela Mann and her husband David Mann. Tamela, plays an executive for a struggling shopping mall and David takes on the comedic role of an ill-fated businessman who disguises himself as a mall Santa to escape the mob after gambling their money away. As Soul Santa, he begins to turn his life around and realizes that family is the true heart and soul of Christmas. The movie directed by Terri J. Vaughn also stars Brooke Monroe Conaway, Christopher Gurrand Ross Fleming

Broadway Inpirational Voices Return for the Holidays

Broadway Inspirational Voices the diverse choir made up of professional Broadway artists is set to host theirreturn holiday concert on Monday, December 6, 2021. The concert which was an annual event marks the first for the Tony-winning choir since 2019.   Welcome Home: A Holiday Gospel Concert will be presented as a two-part celebration. Under the artist direction of Allen Rene Louis, the first part will feature Broadway Inspiration Voices’ favorite songs from their holiday albums. The second part will include soul-stirring gospel roots as the choir returns to their roots. Welcome Home: A Holiday Gospel Concert be held live and in-person at New York City’s Peter Norton Symphony Space 7:00pm – 9:00 pm.
