Gospel Music Association Announces 2021 Nominees
The Gospel Music Association is moving forward with their live and in-person taping of the 52nd Annual Dove Awards on Tuesday, October 19th at the Allen Arena at the Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Dove Awards were presented in a series of pre-taped performances and interviews. This year’s nomination announcements will include special guest artists: Jonathan McReynolds, Alex Campos, John Cooper, Bill & Gloria Gaither, Kari Jobe, Tauren Wells, Brian & Jenn Johnson and Wande. The GMA Dove Awards traditionally, has sought to celebrate the contributions of artists from every style of Christian/Gospel music. Nominees are determined by over 1,600 professional members, and winners will be voted on by the entire GMA membership of nearly 2,500. This year’s nominees were announced on Wednesday, August 11th at 11:00am ET on Facebook, YouTube and on the doveawards.com website. The 52nd Annual Dove Awards will be broadcast through the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) worldwide on Friday, October 22, 2021.
Bishop Jason Nelson Breaks 3-Year Hiatus
Gospel artist Jason Nelson has released “Close,” his first recorded album in three years. Nelson who has racked up over 100 million digital streams as a gospel singer released “Close” on August 6th. “Close” marks the sixth album for Nelson and is his first studio record. His past projects have been live sessions. Nelson who pastors The Tab (formerly The Tabernacle at Greater Bethlehem Temple) in Windsor Mill, Maryland found himself, like many others in leadership roles facing spiritual challenges during the pandemic. He took those experiences and infused them into the music he has written for this new 12-track project. “I had to really refocus to make sure that God was really the center of my attention,” said Nelson, “At some point or another we kinda slipped away or we weren’t as diligent in our pursuit of God as we need to be.”
“Close” infuses influences of jazz, R&B and pop and features performances from both singers and musicians including Chrisette Michele, jazz bassist, John Patitucci and Cross Worship Music member Osby Berry. The first radio single from the project “Residue” has charted Top 20 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart and has already garnered a million streams.
Travis Greene Hosts Album Release Concert
Travis Greene is set to release his new project “Oil + Water” on August 20th. Greene has written and produced each of the album’s tracks including the title song “Oil + Water” featuring Anthony Hamilton. Two other tracks included are the lead single “Hold On Me” featuring Kirk Franklin and Pastor John P. Kee and “Easter” featuring Todd Dulaney. Others featured on the upcoming project include Le’Andria Johnson, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Mali Music and Darrel Walls.
The album release concert will be held at Redemptive East Coast in Greenville, SC where Greene and his wife Dr. Jackie Greene are Co-Pastors. Admission is free. Doors open at 6pm ET. “Oil + Water” is currently available as a pre-order on all digital outlets.
James Fortune and Isaac Carree Co-Host Virtual Talent Show
Gospel singers James Fortune and Isaac Carree plan to team up for a second season of their popular virtual talent show “Fortune’s Live Talent.” The duo currently have a song out titled “It’s Going to Happen,” and for sure it is happening for this pair. Amazing talents have been showcased weekly on both Facebook and Instagram Live on Mondays throughout most of the pandemic at 8:00PM EST and will resume starting Monday, August 16th. For those wishing to showcase their talents in James Fortune’s Live Talent “FLT Season 2,” you will be expected to submit a 60-second video showing what you can do. Louisiana native and award-winning gospel singer and songwriter, Titus Showers is launching a signature brand fedora hat collection. Titus Showers first gained recognition as the lead of the sibling group “The Showers.” Titus, who also became known for sporting fashionable fedoras had items from his new merch line displayed at The Groomed Studio in his hometown of Ponchatoula, LA. At the recent public event, he gifted 10 guests with free haircuts and treated them to a live mini concert of him performing some of his most popular songs including his current single “We Need You.”
