2021 Billboard Music Awards Gospel Finalists Announced
Finalists for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards have now been announced for all categories. Among those nominated this year in the Christian music categories for Top Gospel Artist are Kirk Franklin, Koryn Hawthorne, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Maverick City Music and Kanye West. Those contending for this year’s Top Gospel Song are Koryn Hawthorne, “Speak to Me,” Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music “Movin On,” Marvin Sapp “Thank You For It All,” Tye Tribbett “We Gon’ Be Alright,” and “Wash Us In The Blood” by Kanye West ft. Travis Scott. The ceremony will be held on May 23, 2021, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California and will be broadcast live from NBC. This year’s show will be hosted by Nick Jonas.
Women Leading the Change is the Theme for Third Annual Urban One Honors
Grammy-award winning gospel artist Erica Campbell and journalist Roland Martin will be co-hosting the third annual Urban One Honors awards show that will be simulcast for the first time on its sister network CLEO TV. This year’s theme “Women Leading the Change” will pay tribute to outstanding contributions of women in politics, health, media and politics within the Black community. This year’s honorees include health equity advocate Dr. Ala Stanford, reparations ambassador Robin Rue Simmons, investigative journalism crusader Nikole Hannah-Jones, Roz Brewer, business alchemist, family needs ambassador Kim Ford and political leader Stacey Abrams. Jazmine Sullivan, Le’Andria Johnson, Avery Sunshine and rapper Da Brat are all scheduled to perform for the event that will take place on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 9P/8C.
Michelle Williams Launches Book Tour and Discussions on Depression and Anxiety
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Michelle Williams one-third of the award-winning trio Destiny’s Child has opened up to her fans about her private battle with depression and anxiety and has announced her plans for the virtual tour following to her recently released book “Checking In” about how getting real about depression saved her life and can save yours too. Her “Checking In” virtual book tour will feature special celebrity guests such as Taraji P. Henson, Lecrae, Tamar Braxton, Devon Franklin and Tina Lawson, mother of Destiny’s Child member Beyonce and many others who will join Michelle’s discussion of individual topics such as depression, anxiety, defining your identity, nurturing a healthy community and embracing singleness. Lecrae’s Reach Records Name Executive Producers for Netflix Soundtrack
Reach Records has signed on to be the executive producers for the upcoming Netflix film “Blue Miracle” which will debut May 27, 2021 on the streaming platform. The soundtrack will feature original music from several Reach Record artists including Lecrae, 1K Phew, GAWVI, WHATUPRG and others and will be released the same day as the film. “Blue Miracle” is based on a true story about Casa Hogar, a Mexican orphanage and features an amazing cast of actors including veteran actor Dennis Quaid.
Celebration of Life Services Announced for C.O.G.I.C. Bishop Loran E. Mann
The Church of God in Christ is mourning the passing of recent appointee Bishop Loran E. Mann who was the Pastor of the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ in Pittsburgh, PA. Bishop Mann’s celebration services will be held at the church where he presided on Monday, May 24th where he will be lying in repose from 12 noon – 9pm. The Local/Jurisdictional celebration will be held Tuesday, May 25th and will conclude with the National Homegoing Celebration at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, PA on Wednesday, May 26th at 10 am.
